Lock Before You Leave
At UConn Health, protecting patient information is everyone’s responsibility. One of the easiest and most effective ways to keep information secure is to lock your computer whenever you step away from your workstation, even for a moment.
Your login credentials are unique to you. Any activity performed while you are logged in is recorded under your employee login.
Imagine you leave your workstation unlocked while stepping away for a quick break, such as to grab a cup of coffee. During that time, someone accesses a patient record using your computer. The system records were accessed under your username, making you accountable for the activity, even if you were not present, you are still held responsible.
The good news is that preventing this is quick and easy. Before leaving your desk, use one of the following methods:
In addition to Windows+L or Ctrl+Alt+Delete, use badge in and out where available.
Locking your computer takes only a few seconds but helps prevent unauthorized access and protects patient privacy, your coworkers, and yourself.
Remember:
- Never leave your workstation unlocked or unattended.
- Never share your password with anyone.
- Always log off when your shift ends.
Following these steps helps us follow UConn Health policy and keep sensitive information safe. Locking your computer protects our patients, our organization, and your professional reputation.
